Keeping your records safe

Your company's records: stored in the EU, locked against deletion, and only ever filed when you say so.

A company's books are some of the most sensitive things it has. Here is how standing.tax holds them. Everything below is something it does today.

Where your records are

Your records are stored in Germany, in the European Union.
Each customer's records are kept apart from every other customer's by the database itself, not only by our code.

Documents you upload are kept in locked storage for seven years from the day you upload them. Nobody can delete them before then: not you, not us, not our storage provider.
Every document you upload is checked for viruses before it's kept.
A period you've filed is locked, so its figures can't be quietly changed afterwards.

You sign in with a single-use link sent to your email. There's no password to remember, or to steal.
Every connection to standing.tax is encrypted. The site can't be reached over plain HTTP.
The most sensitive details, such as National Insurance numbers, your authentication code and your connection to HMRC, are encrypted before they're stored, and never written to our logs.
Our staff can open your company's records only if you say yes, for a limited time, and every look is written to your account's record.

You check and approve every figure. Nothing is filed until you have.
Your company files under its own authority: you connect your own HMRC sign-in, and your company's own authentication code goes on its Companies House filings. standing.tax is the software, not your agent.
You give your company's authentication code once. It's kept encrypted, never shown again, and put only on the filings you approve.

There is nowhere in standing.tax to type a tax question. Where what you need is advice, it says so plainly: that's one for an accountant.

Download everything in one go: every document, every entry in your books and every filing receipt, in files any other software can open.
Close your account whenever you like, from Settings, after downloading everything.
